Puerto Vallarta Restaurant Review:

Pipi's
restaurant is one of the most popular in Puerto Vallarta for Mexican food.

SETTING  - A festive-looking building about 3 streets up the hill from the waterfront.  In the evening, there seems to be a steady stream of taxis dropping off customers there, but it's easy to walk from or to the Malecon.

FOOD  -
This is the place to come for top-notch fajitas (a specialty) and Mexican food.  I would call the food California-style Mexican, with big, thick tamales, enchiladas, and chile rellenos.  Likewise, the Grande salads (heaped with shredded beef) are served on a huge bowl-shaped crispy tostado, larger than the plate.  They also have good posole, which you don't see here much, and the last time I visited, I tasted some great Puntas de Filete (tender beef tips smothered in a tangy stew).  The guacamole (included with the meal) is made fresh at your table as you watch (photo below).  Pipi's has two sizes of maragritas -- Big and REALLY Big -- and good.

AMBIANCE  -  Lively, crowded (particularly at dinner).  Strolling mariachi musicians.  It's like a big party.

RESERVATIONS  -
Nah.  But you may have a short wait.

BOTTOM LINE  -
Pipi's is just a fun place to go.  Love the fajitas.  Love the margaritas.
